Abstract:
The BDS-3 PPP-B2b signal provides real-time precision single-point positioning (PPP) services for China and the adjacent territories, however there is limited study on its service range, performance, and applications at present. This study firstly investigates the service range and performance of the PPP-B2b signal based on one-month’s observation of 8 IGS MGEX stations located within the service range and boundary of the PPP-B2b signal. Then using data from 12 Chinese coastline reference stations in June 2022, this study assesses the precision of atmospheric precipitable water vapor (PWV) retrieved from the PPP-B2b signal and investigates the correlation between PWV and actual rainfall. The experimental results demonstrate that the positioning accuracy in the static PPP mode is better than 6cm for the station in the service range, and better than 8cm for the station at the border. The accuracy is better than 18cm and 24cm respectively in the dynamic PPP mode. The RMS of the difference between the PWV retrieved from the PPP-B2b signal and the post-product PWV is 3.41mm. The RMS of the station at the service range border is less than 4mm, satisfying the general application requirements. In June 2022, the coastal area of China saw 50 rainfall events, including 19 rainstorms. Experiment results show the average PWV rise rates of the regular rainfall events is 1.04mm/h and which can reach 2.08mm/h rainstorm events. This study provides valuable findings for further positioning and rainstorm prediction application research based on the PPP-B2b signal.
