Abstract: A summary on the advances in published studies on the epidote mineral group, which have been achieved during the last years, will be given. These advances include several aspects: New studies about the structure of epidote minerals have been carried out, which show the significance of the Al-Fe3+ distribution. In crystal chemistry it has been demonstrated that a number of trace elements such as Sr, Pb, rare earth elements and others, can be incorporated in epidote minerals, and they behave as important carriers of petrogenetically significant elements and isotope systems.
