Abstract: Makassar Strait serves as one of the Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) gates that carries water masses into the Indonesian seas. The changes in ITF volume transport have been shown to impact the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. The El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) signal can be transferred to the Indian Ocean from the Pacific Ocean via changes in transport, and some simulation results suggest that extreme Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) events can decrease the forecast skill of El Nino and its events (Ma et al, 2020). Therefore, it is hypothesized that there is a relationship between ENSO, IOD, and ITF volume transport. In this study, we analyze CMIP6 scenarioMIP model data to investigate how ENSO and IOD events influence the Indonesian Throughflow through Makassar Strait under global warming. By analyzing the correlation and power spectral density between the variables, we aim to reveal the relationship between the variables and the dominant signal of climate variability that occurs in Makassar Strait.
