Abstract: The temporal evolution of ion and electron flux distribution and associated wave activity following the substorm onset in the inner magnetosphere are investigated using the data from the Van Allen Probes mission. Energetic electrons (E > 100keV) in the Earth’s magnetosphere are primarily trapped in the inner magnetosphere roughly from 1.2 < L< 7. In general, the energetic electrons are relatively stable in the inner belt, whereas the energetic electrons in the outer zone (L ̴ 2 - 7) are highly variable during substorms. Moreover, chorus emissions are excited by electrons > 10 keV. Substorm also enhances the ring current ions. The ring current energy is mainly carried around by the ions, most of which are protons. In addition, a certain percentage are O+ ions which are major species of top side ionosphere of the Earth are also enhanced in the substorm time scale. The dynamics of those particles are determined by their interaction with several distinct classes of plasma waves. The present study aims at understanding the role of ion and electron flux enhancement during substorm onset in triggering the observed Chorus and EMIC wave activity. The possible mechanism for the observed wave activity and its relation with the flux enhancement will be presented.
