On 25 October 2022 at 10:59 PM PST (UTC+8), a magnitude 6.4 earthquake occurred with its epicenter located in the Municipality of Lagayan, Province of Abra, Philippines, almost three months after a magnitude 7.0 earthquake had struck the same province with its epicenter located in the Municipality of Tayum, around 18 km southwest of the M6.4 event. This paper summarizes the results of the aftershock monitoring for this event using the combined recorded data from the nine (9) temporary broadband seismic stations immediately deployed around the epicentral area on 27 October – 15 November 2022 to augment the monitoring by the permanent broadband seismic stations of the Philippine Seismic Network (PSN). With the improved earthquake detection and location accuracy, we compare the spatial and temporal distribution of the hypocenters together with known fault plane solutions of the main event and the mapped active faults in the area. Finally, we discuss this sequence to the history of earthquake occurrences and implications to the earthquake risk for the area.
