Abstract:
Recent developments in detector sensitivity has allowed detailed fireball data to be collected on a daily basis. These tools along with theoretical models, help us understand the energy deposition of each meteoroid, cross-calibrate the methods themselves, and derive the pre-atmospheric mass on impacting objects. Here we present a method of estimating the mass of meteoroids by comparing several well-known atmospheric impacts of ton-TNT scale energy. The obtained relation can be used to better constrain the size-frequency distribution of objects at the source of fireballs, and estimate the impact risk according to object's scale.
