Abstract:
The dumping of toxic waste in the District of Abidjan constitutes a threat of pollution of groundwater, the main source of water supply for the populations of the District of Abidjan. Thus, to study the potential pollution of this groundwater, this study proposes to model the transport of dissolved perchloroethylenes through this water table with the Feflow code. The achievement of this objective required a methodological approach that consists in designing, executing and calibrating a coupled model of groundwater flow and organochlorine transport in the Abidjan aquifer. Various data were used to develop the conceptual model and input parameters of the coupled groundwater flow and transport model. The calibration of the flow model allowed us to obtain an NRMS = 4.77%, revealing the convergence of the model which was moreover vérifiée by the modification of the number of meshes. The model was then used for predictive simulations of dissolved perchloroethylene transport at the five selected waste disposal sites. The simulation of perchloroethylene transport provided insight into the horizontal trajectory of the pollutant within the Continental Terminal slick. The contamination times vary from 9 to 47 years. This study undoubtedly favors the sustainable management of groundwater resources in the District of Abidjan by solving the problems of accidental or punctual pollution.
