Abstract:
This thesis aims to understand these changes and reasons behind by analyzing the
styles of deformation of the western margin of South America, in particular the surface
expression of deformation, along the Chilean convergent margin. To understand the
parameters controlling the style of deformation in the chosen areas I applied 3D transient numerical modeling. This thesis represents the first real 3D study analyzing deformation caused by oblique convergence associated with a realistic composite rheology.
