Abstract:
The 6 February 2023 Turkey earthquake (Mw 7.8) caused more than 46 000 casualties, and a terrible devastation to property in both Turkey and Syria. This earthquake was recorded by several stations from the International Monitoring System (IMS) of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO). We analyzed vertical components seismograms from 39 stations from the CTBTO using Geotool software. Our preliminary analyses shows that the mainshock occurred at Lat 37.320 and Long 37.015; origin time of 01:17:39.7 (UTC); and at a depth of 40.3 km. The body magnitude (mb) and local magnitude (ml) are 5.4 +/- 0.1 and 4.8 +/- 0.2, respectively. The Gutenberg-Richter relation obtained from aftershocks with magnitudes greater than 2.4 associated with the mainshock during the first 4 days, shows an activity rate and b-value of 6.7 and 1.24, respectively.
