Abstract
Land geodesy has brought tremendous insights into many processes affecting our planet, such as earthquake processes, including silent events, and surface deformation due to water and atmospheric pressure loading. It is also a key method for studying deep tectonic processes and monitoring Earth surface parameters related, for example, to the many global changes affecting our planet. As two-thirds of the Earth surface is covered by the oceans, geodetic measurements at the sea surface and on the sea floor are an obvious need. The Inter-Commission Committee on Marine Geodesy (ICCM) was officially created as part of the IUGG in 2019. We present the committee, its current actions and its future projects. One of the main targets of the ICCM is to help develop an international marine and sub-marine geodesy community that shares experiences, tools and data. It currently supports a focused effort on facilitating the exchange of data and processing codes, through the definition of common standards and data exchange formats. Another important point of focus is the development of collaborations with ocean physicists, since ocean variability is one of the key factors limiting our ability to detect small crustal deformations. This presentation provides an opportunity to discuss major international initiatives in the field of marine geodesy.
