Zusammenfassung
The Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) is the leading mode of subseasonal variability in the tropics and is a key source of predictability for extratropical weather through its teleconnection patterns. Studies have shown that these teleconnection patterns can be modulated by the El Nino Southern Oscillation, however changes over decadal time scales and the response to anthropogenic climate change are less well understood. We use ERA5 reanalysis data to show that the boreal winter MJO teleconnection pattern in the Northern Hemisphere has changed in recent decades and provide mechanisms for these changes through alterations in the climatological mean state.
