Zusammenfassung
In this work, we study new aspects of the development of Equatorial Plasma Bubbles (EPBs) over the South American Region. We analyze maps of the Disturbance Ionosphere indeX (DIX) and the Rate of change of the Total Electron Content Index (ROTI) to evaluate the EPBs development. These indices are calculated using multi-constellation (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou) and multi-frequency Total Electron Content (TEC) data, which is derived from Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) stations distributed across South America. Consequently, the DIX and ROTI maps are calculated from almost 400 GNSS ground stations and used to evaluate the ionospheric disturbances related to EPBs during different space weather conditions. Our results indicate that EPB-related ionospheric disturbances can be driven simultaneously by internal (Earth’s Ionosphere) and external (Solar) triggers since combined effects can be observed in the indices. Finally, we support our analysis by comparing the DIX and ROTI maps with data from other instruments, such as All-Sky Imager and Digital Ionosonde.
