Zusammenfassung
The solar wind – magnetosphere – ionosphere is a system that constitutes the near-Earth space environment. A complete understanding of the overall interactions in the system requires not only the localized information detected by in-situ satellite, but also large scale variations on system level. In this context, Solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer (SMILE) is jointly proposed and supported by the European Space Agency (ESA) and Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), which is due for launch around 2025. SMILE will observe the solar wind – magnetosphere – ionosphere system via simultaneous in situ solar wind detections, soft X-ray imaging of the magnetosphere, and UV imaging of the aurora. Before the launch of the SMILE mission, the Modelling Working Group (MWG) performs studies mainly focusing on the solar wind charge exchange (SWCX) X-ray emissions from the magnetosheath. This talk will briefly review the recent contributions from the MWG, including (1) predictions of the X-ray signals and images of the magnetosphere, (2) approaches to derive the boundary information from X-ray images, (3) SWCX X-ray from medium to small scale structures, and (4) features of the SWCX emission from astronomical satellite observations.
